Buyer Beware!

There are many reputable roofing companies and contractors in Cincinnati. Many of the roofing companies in Cincinnati have been around for years. It's important for homeowners to do some due diligence before hiring a roofing company and contractor.

When the dry hurricane Ike struck Cincinnati and the surrounding area back in mid September of 2008, roofing companies were inundated with calls, as were we. Some roofing contractors stopped answering their phones they were so busy. We didn't stop answering our phones, but, we did have a longer than normal wait time for estimates, insurance claims, and roof installs, for obvious reasons.

It didn't take long before the out of state storm chasers heard on the news, that a big storm blew through our area, so they packed their bags, and headed to Cincinnati Ohio. The storm chasers helped pick up the slack in our storm stricken area. Believe it or not, many of the storm chasers are still here in Cincinnati, no significant storms have hit since Ike, so there are still a good number of storm chasers around.

Something homeowners should be aware of in regards to storm chasers is, beware! Not all storm chasers will fit the following profile, but a number of them will. Basically, the life of a roofing storm chasing company is to travel from state to state, city to city, as wind storms, hail storms, and tornado's plague an area with storm damage. Most of these roofing companies (storm chasers) will do a good job. The problem starts, when the storm is over. Many homeowners are promised warranty's, and that their roof will be serviced for years to come if there is a problem with their roof, siding, gutters, etc. A good number of storm chasers will pack their bags, once the storm is over and head off to the next storm, with no intentions on making good on their warranty's. You may get a disconnected recording when you try to call your roofers number, only to realize you just signed up for a tail light warranty. Do all storm chasers behave like this? No, not all storm chasers are dishonest, but a good handful of them are, so it's important to know who you are dealing with before you hire a roofing, siding, and gutter contractor. Even if you do hire a reputable out of state storm chaser, you may still want to ask yourself if you want to take a chance or deal with the consequences of getting your roof serviced if a problem ever arises? If the storm chaser leaves town, what is their protocol for getting your roof, siding, or gutters serviced?

Just a word of advice before you hire someone, check license plates, that's one of the first tell tell signs that the person you are dealing with is either local, or out of state. Check the Better Business Bureau, if the company has no history with the Better Business Bureau or a short history, there is a good chance that the company may be a storm chaser. Check the name of the business on the Internet, try Googling the name of the business or the domain name, and see if any negative or positive feedback comes up. Get references.
